The official source: the birth record
The birth time is written on the full copy of the birth record — not the short extract, which does not mention it. It is the reference document, the most reliable, and it stands as proof.
Where to ask
The full copy is requested from the civil registry of the place of birth — in person, by post, or online. It is issued to the person concerned, their ascendants, and their descendants. Allow a few days. Procedures vary by country, but the principle is the same everywhere: the local authority that recorded the birth holds the time.
If the record isn't enough
A few older records do not state the time. In that case, look to the baby health book, the birth announcement, the parents' memory, or the maternity ward. Failing that, astrology also works with an approximate time — or without one, owning what remains legible.
